2013
Linda decided it was time to have another baby. So she went to the Kansas Humane Society and picked up a puppy! His name is Max and he is a sweet little Brussels Griffon. He will be with Linda when shes at the store so come visit anytime! January 27, 2012 Linda was among the nominees for the Elizabeth Watkins Community Caring Award. "Inspired by the caring spirit of philanthropist Elizabeth Miller Watkins, this award celebrates those who have demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism and whose gifts of time, talent and treasure are invaluable to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and community health care." In 2011, the Endowment Association transferred $2.2 million to the hospital, and that helped pay for equipment, services, medical education and research. |

Here at The Etc. Shop we support Breast Cancer Awareness all year with our very own survivors.
Linda Lester owner of The Etc. Shop, has battled cancer 3 times: breast cancer in 2000 and again in 2010 when she had her bilateral mastectomy, and lung cancer in 2005 when she had a lobe removed. This July she had a clear 5 year check up, and continues to go back for regular check ups.
Linda works hard to promote The Breast Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and is always happy to share her experience with people who are fighting their own battles. She is proof that you can "pull up your big girl panties" and greet each day with determination. She's tougher than ever and fights for Breast Cancer Awareness every day.
Marcia "Nana" Runyon is the 7th person in her family to battle breast cancer. After being diagnosed in 2002, with stage 2 - grade 3 cancer and lymph node involvement, she had a bilateral mastectomy and a three year delayed reconstruction. Marcia has had the BRCA Gene Testing and was cleared.
Marcia always has a smile on her face and lifts us up when we are down. We are so thankful to have her to brighten the store with her humor and amazing attitude every day!
You can do your part too. In honor of our survivors and because breast cancer affects people everyday, not just October, The Etc. Shop carries a wide variety of Breast Cancer Awareness items all year.
